As a result, it’s difficult for people with life-threatening illnesses to receive this treatment, especially when they don’t have the time or money to wait.

That could be changing soon. A few Canadian companies are now administering psilocybin-assisted therapy, and one of them is in Vancouver. Payton Nyquvest is the founder of Numinus Wellness, a publicly-traded company specializing in research, production and distribution of psychedelics for medicinal purposes, and it is one of only a few to operate under the SAP.

Nyquvest says he is working with his team to move away from mistakes that cannabis companies made before legalization. He wants to ensure that psilocybin is safe, reliable and easily accessible.

In addition to the psilocybin itself, he is bringing in experienced clinician-scientists and psychiatrists to supervise the therapy sessions. These professionals are trained to help patients deal with any anxiety, depression or PTSD that may arise during the experience. He also says he plans to partner with hospitals to offer the therapy as part of their end-of-life care programs.
